Partial Hospitalization For Adults

Rivendell of Arkansas developed the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for adults age 18 and older who need extra help and support making the transition from an inpatient program, or need a more structured alternative to outpatient care. To offer additional emotional security and motivation to these patients, PHP involves day treatment at the hospital, where the patient is engaged in four to five hours of therapy and works independently through guided journaling as they learn about the ten phases of recovery. Other activities include recreation therapy and life skills seminars led by our medical director.

PHP helps patients continue their growth in a controlled, growth-oriented environment, supported by our treatment team and other patients seeking recovery while maintaining their daily evening routines. Our medical staff works with patients individually on medication management and a clearer understanding of their diagnoses, whether they’re struggling with mental health issues or recovering from substance abuse. Upon completion of the program, we work with each patient to create an individualized aftercare plan, which can include making referrals for Mental Health Professionals (MHP) the patient can see for continued care and wellness.

PHP hours are 9 a.m to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lunch and snacks provided.

While treatment varies for each patient, most patients seek support from the program for two to four weeks, followed by additional treatment in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), as necessary. Local transportation to Rivendell is available as necessary but should be arranged with the facility.
